Sunken Forest
If you're ever just taking a leisurely walk from points west (Ocean Beach, Kismet, Fair
Harbor, etc.) or Vice Versa (Cherry Grove, The Pines, Davis Park), don't miss this detour: A really great "nature hike" that guides you along a boardwalk through an untouched reserve of Fire Island. If you pay close attention to the walk, you'll see markings that correspond to a guide map that you can pick up at Sailor's Haven. (Another marina with a snack bar and souvenir shop). Great place to dock your boat, and head over to the beach. This area of Fire Island is managed by the National Park's Service, as Part of the Fire Island National Seashore. |
